Some Concrete Restoration Services Your Old Driveway Might Need

If your driveway is an embarrassment because the concrete is stained with algae and dirt, you may be looking for ways to restore it. As long as the base under the driveway and the concrete are both in good condition, you can restore and repair the concrete rather than tear it out and start over. Restoration is much less expensive. Here are a few concrete restoration services you might need to improve the appearance of your driveway.

Pressure Washing Gets The Surface Clean

One of the most affordable concrete restoration services is pressure washing. If the only problem with your driveway is that the surface is dirty, then pressure washing could restore the concrete to a clean appearance that makes your driveway look almost new again. If you don't have experience with a pressure washer, hire a professional to clean your driveway so it is cleaned uniformly and doesn't have any streaks.

Once the appearance of the driveway has been restored, you may want a coating applied. The coating protects the concrete and keeps it in better cosmetic condition. You might get a glossy coating that makes the concrete look shiny, wet, and clean.

Concrete Leveling Raises A Sunken Corner

If the edge of a slab has sunken and left your driveway uneven, you have a trip hazard to deal with, and your driveway isn't very attractive. It might even be against codes to have a driveway that's sunken in places. This is a problem that's easy to fix since a concrete restoration service can inject poly foam under the sunken corner to raise it and make your driveway level again.

A Concrete Overlay Makes Stamping Possible

A concrete overlay is a thin layer of concrete that's installed on top of your old driveway. The old concrete has to be cleaned first so the overlay adheres well. Then the concrete is added and spread around. Before it dries, shapes are stamped in the overlay.

The stamps can be shaped like bricks or irregular pavers. Color can also be added to make bricks look red. An overlay makes your driveway look new and it changes the appearance too, so it's a good option when your driveway needs to be restored.

Crack Repair Prevents Further Damage

If your driveway has several small cracks or a large jagged crack, you'll want to have them repaired as soon as you can since rain can seep into the cracks and cause further damage. Crack repair is a common concrete restoration service, and you may want to combine repairs with a coating or overlay.

Cracks are repaired with a concrete patch material that won't match your driveway completely. If the color difference is too noticeable once repairs are complete, talk to the concrete restoration service about covering your driveway and the repaired areas with a coating or overlay that will hide the repairs and make the surface of the concrete more attractive.

About Me

Pouring Over: A Concrete Blog

If you look at a big, concrete pad or a foundation, it might be hard to imagine that concrete as a liquid. And yet, the concrete was once a liquid — or more accurately, a slurry — that your concrete contractor poured into a form. The concrete them took several days to harden before your concrete contractor was able to finish it. They may have finished it by sanding it down to a smooth texture, or even by applying stain.
